Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) has joined the National Applied Artificial Intelligence Consortium to boost the number of technician-level AI professionals. Led by Miami Dade College and Houston Community College, the consortium has secured $2.8 million from the National Science Foundation to develop new courses, certificates, and degree programs in AI. MCCCD Chancellor Steven Gonzales emphasized that the collaboration would help bridge the AI skills gap and create transformative learning opportunities. Industry partners like Intel, AWS, Microsoft, and Nvidia will support the initiative. MCCCD has already made strides in AI education with Arizona’s first AI certificate and degree program and a new AI incubator lab. The district plans to launch a bachelor's degree in AI by 2025, aiming to shape the future of AI-driven innovation and workforce development.
